Event Summary

Nearly a lifetime has passed for three Honolulu sisters who were born on the Hawi Sugar Plantation on the Big Island. “A Small Life” is a reflective journey with a range of interviews and moments filled with humor, warmth and tragedy. Now in their 80s and 90s, the sisters reflect on an event in their personal lives that occurred decades ago in1942. The observant, intimate camera and a lingering pace call attention to the passage of time, the beauty in listening and the fragility of memory. Originally premiered at last year's HIFF, this video is by Lynne Yamamoto, Honolulu Biennial artist, and filmmaker Lucretia Knapp.
